The ascendants of my family were very gentle and religious minded. Our ancestors shifted from undivided India to Amritsar in Punjab 4 centuries ago.
The ancestors of my family have been working as Vaidyas (Registered Medical Practitioners) since nearly 300 years, i.e. 3 centuries.
My great great grandfather, Shri Bhagat Nathu Mal was a Vaidya and he rendered 24 hours of service of the sick and would never take any money. He, moreover, donated all the surplus money he earned for the noble cause of the society after meeting his simple basic needs. He worked in the family clinic known as ‘Dawa khana Bhagtaan’ situated in the heart of the Amritsar city. At that time, modern medicine didn’t exist, therefore, people only depended on traditional methods of medicine for the treatment of any disease. Moreover, medicine was a highly tiring and developing field.
During the time of my great great grandfather’s service, not only the city and country but people from all over the world like USA, Britain, Afghanistan, Dubai, etc. came to get treated for various diseases. He was indeed famous for treating skin problems, joint problems, digestive problems, spine problems and many more.
My great great grandfather’s wife, Shrimati Budhvanti never used plain water during her 12 pregnancies but used only Ark. For this reason she lived for a whole 104 years and never felt sick in her life. As the life expectancy for Indians of that period was short, living for more than 60 years was a huge achievement.
Moreover, she used Ayurvedic beauty products like creams and facial oils which kept her skin very healthy throughout her life. Another recorded instance is of how Shri Bhagat Nathu Mal could treat a person’s eye infection with just two drops of medicine in one sitting.
Our biggest family heirloom therefore are the private diaries containing secret formulas for treatment of various diseases passed on from 4 centuries. My great great grandfather indeed enhanced and contributed very much by recording his life’s doings in the form of diaries which we still possess.
After the death of my great great grandfather, many rare Ayurvedic books written by him and his ancestors in urdu were donated to the library of Dayanand Ayurvedic College, Jallandhar city.
Some of the main precious books were passed on through the generations.
Currently, my grandfather possesses many such books and he has rejuvenated the formulas and written them again in Hindi and English in a systematic manner. As all these are private inventions, none of my ancestors shared the books and diaries with anyone outside of the few people they trusted. But my mother & I are blessed to possess some of these diaries containing rare formulations of skin and hair products.
We have done extensive research and after much endeavor identified areas to procure pure and natural ayurvedic herbs from the Himalayas.
